Petition by District Councillor Roy Galley (Strategic planning and housing delivery) The Government's 'Plan' for the South East determined that 11000 houses should be built in Wealden in the next 20 years. This top down manner of planning threatens to damage this beautiful area and we all need to be involved in telling the Government that such numbers are unsustainable. Wealden Councillors therefore decided to take this issue to the 'top' and set up a petition on the No 10 website, to tell the Prime Minister that the local community in Wealden objects to Government plans to direct the Council to make provision for building 11000 houses and believes that our local Councillors should decide how many houses should be built in the District. Roy and MP Charley Hendry urge you to sign the petition, which can be found at:
East Grinstead Relief Road Nutley Fights Back! Councillor David Jonas of Wealden District Council Green Party (Forest Row) delivered the Wealden Fights Back Petition with 1731 signatures to the Government Office for the South East in Guildford on 24th October. The petition is to object to the secretary of state imposing a requirement that our District and County Councils "will take the necessary steps to ensure that essential infrastructure is put in place" to support the East Grinstead development, because it would lead to an unacceptable increase in traffic into our district (as much as 26%). A huge thank you to all of you who signed the petition and handed them into the collection points around Nutley. Now that this has been formally registered as a consultation response, policy officers in both Wealden District and East Sussex County Councils can refer to it as evidence in their efforts to defend our right to determine our own plans for North Wealden, rather than being forced by the Secretary of State to conform with something that Mid Sussex District Council wants to do in East Grinstead.
